Thrifting Adventures

Thrifting seems to be very popular in the blogging world-- and it's always been popular with me. Ever since I was about 9 or 10, I would cheerfully follow my mom to various sales and antique stores, trying to look very grown up so as not to receive dirty looks that said you're too young and you're going to knock something over! So I always picked things up with the most delicate touch, and 'ooh'ed quietly.

This morning, my sister and I dragged ourselves out of bed to go on a little thrifting adventure. We piled in the car with my mom and drove around town to a couple of sales. The first was fairly pathetic, so we moved on. But the second one was very vintage, run by an adorable old lady. She chatted with us, and I think she made the whole excursion worth our time.

At the end of the day, my sister and I each ended up with a little treasure. I got the book Christy, by Catherine Marshall (which I had actually been looking for) and my sister got a little stuffed cat, made out of vintage fabric with a face stitched on: a grand total of $1.25. I do believe it was worth our time.

Do you like thrifting? What's your favorite thrifted treasure?

xo,
Lindsey

  1. Almost everything I own is thrifted ;)
Well, not quite. But I love my books I've gotten through thrifting. I have found all of the Anne of Green Gables series except for the last one (which was a gift) at thrift stores. I've gotten several Jane Austen books there; the written plays of Sense and Sensibility and My Fair Lady, and a lovely hard cover copy of The Wind in the Willows, complete with vintage full page pictures. And I've found countless, shirts, skirts, hats, and scarves at thrift stores.

  4. I love thrifting & yard sales in the summer!

When I was 7, we spent six weeks during the summer house-sitting for some friends who were on vacation. We were in this great little community where there were several yard sales taking place every Saturday. So most Saturdays we would get up early and either go walking or pile into the car to go yard-sale-ing. It was so fun! I bought so many little toys and videos that summer! But anyways, now my thrifting is a lot more... well, controlled. ;) I have a lot of thrifted clothes, and once at a yard sale I bought Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A.Milne. It's such a good book! :) I also have a couple of vases that I thrifted - one is hot pink and the other is white and has little red flowers painted on it.

Sorry that was so long, but I was getting a little excited. Spring & summer are the best times to go thrifting!

  5. I absolutely adore thrifting. Just last week, I went thrifting with my mom and got a beautiful, gold locket and a book of love poems for under $5. Plus, it's always so fun :D
